The dachshund originated in Germany over 600 years ago, with its name literally meaning "badger dog." Bred specifically to hunt badgers, rabbits, and other burrow-dwelling animals, their elongated bodies and short legs allowed them to pursue prey into underground tunnels. By the 1800s, dachshunds had split into different sizes—standard for badgers, miniature for rabbits—and their popularity spread beyond hunting circles. They became beloved companions across Europe and eventually worldwide, recognized for their bold personalities and distinctive appearance.

Known for being vocal watchdogs, they alert readily to activity. Their confidence often manifests as fearlessness around much larger dogs. While affectionate and playful, they can be single-minded when pursuing a scent or goal, making consistent training important from an early age.

The Flora Fauna Collection began in 2007 with a series focused on birds and has continued to expand ever since. Conceived as an ongoing visual study rather than a closed series, the collection explores the essential forms, patterns, and identities of plants and animals from around the world.

These features highlighted both the artwork and the broader philosophy behind the collection.

Designed with modularity in mind, the Flora Fauna prints work especially well in small formats such as 5×7 and 8×10.
